Teens 〰️
By 13, most of my clients have already heard some version of "lazy," "too sensitive," or "too much", often from people who love them and don't know what else to say. We work on executive-function strategies that fit how their brain actually works, and on separating who they are from the labels that got stuck to them along the way. I treat teenagers as capable of understanding their own diagnosis and having a say in their own treatment — not as a problem being managed by the adults around them.
Teens
Parenting a neurodivergent teen is hard in ways that's hard to explain unless you're living it, and helping your child usually means helping you too. So I work with parents directly, not just as a quick update at the end of session. We talk about what's realistic at 7am before school, and what to do when a meltdown starts in the car. I've also spent years in San Diego schools and on wraparound teams, so I've sat with a lot of families going through IEP and 504 meetings, the waitlists, the paperwork and can help you navigate the frustrations that come with all of it.
